So here are the tips for you on how you can travel well, all prepared for a nice, quality vision.

When you do the packing

  • Pack your lenses in a leakproof case that is clean, dry, and devoid of any impurities. Make sure it’s not more than three months old because then it might not be sterile enough. Fill the case with enough sterile solution so the lenses remain submerged in their entirety at all times.
  • In case you are yet to buy new ones according to your latest prescription, preferably buy the daily disposable ones because they are the easiest to manage, require almost no cleaning, and are more durable.
  • Carry enough sterile contact lens solution and make you carry it in at least two bottles so that if one leaks out, you have a backup.
  • Always keep your latest prescription alongside so in case anything goes down, you have your prescription to get a new pair made.
  • Besides your lenses, always keep a pair of glasses alongside with the latest prescription while traveling so that in case you end up losing or destroying your lenses during the trip, you have your glasses to help you see clearly.
  • Keep your lens case in a hardbound box or cover so that it doesn’t get squeezed under the pressure of anything above or below it.
  • Don’t keep any sharp objects like pins or nail cutters near your case as they can penetrate into it, breaking the case and leading to leakage.

When you are traveling

  •  Make sure you carry your lens case and sterile solution with you on the plane in your carry-on bag and not keep it in the luggage as they have a tendency to dry out in the recycled air that is present there in the plane.
  • In case you are not wearing them, make sure you pack them (including the sterile solution bottle) in a zip lock bag because in those In high-pressure cabins there’s a high chance of them getting spilled all over your luggage or carry-on bag.
  • As they can dry out easily, make sure you never doze off with your contacts on and also clean in the sterile solution them after a period at most 8 hours in case it’s a long journey.
  • Don’t wash your face with your lenses on as the non-sterile solution i.e. water can get into your eyes and pollute the membrane.
  • Use only fresh contact lens solution – never water – to store your lenses after each use. Never mix fresh solution with an old or used solution.
